Well Formed, Volume 1, Issue 3

October 2003

This month marks a couple of milestones for Well Formed.

For the first time there is a new product review, we come to the end of a series and the magazine has gone mobile with content optimized for Pocket PC.

Wrapping up the Canvas class

The Canvas control now supports scrolling, infinitely scaleable zooming and user feedback. The Canvas control source is included and the control has a royalty free license for use in your own applications.

To wrap up, the test program shows you how to create a scribble like application with around a dozen lines of extra code!.

Using DirectX in Windows Forms controls

Not often seen as a design choice for Windows Forms user interface controls, DirectX is now easy to use thanks to the new managed interfaces that work seamlessly with .NET. We present a Windows Forms Marquee control that uses DirectX to vastly reduce the load of blitting image data on to a form.

Customizing your properties.

Learn how to modify properties for use in the property grid.

The Property Grid sometimes has an interface that's too programmer oriented for every day use. Users who know nothing about the classes they are editing can be confused by names such as MyBigFatDrawingClass. Give your classes friendly names and learn how to dynamically show or hide properties at run-time so that the property grid can be more interesting to your users.

Go Mobile

Take Well Formed on the road with specially optimized content for Pocket PC.

This month as an experiment that may become a regular feature, Well Formed is packaged in a mobile form that has been adjusted for viewing on Pocket IE.
